Dr. Thomas J. Forman
Dr. Forman has been working as a school psychologist with Lake Villa District #41 since 2000. Lake Villa is a wonderful district for a school psychologist to work - because school psych services are highly valued. More specifically, all school psychologists are building based, and consequently has an excellent student to psychologist ratio. This allows the school psychologists to be more directly involved in intervention, counseling, consultation and other student services activities than other more traditional states/districts. Districts that maintain the "traditional role" for school psychologists are much more limiting in regards to what activities are possible or encouraged. Generally, the traditional role only values or allows time for school psychologists to conduct activities associated with assessment and special education. Dr. Forman's primary role is currently serving Thompson Elementary. As with most of the other school psychologists with Lake Villa, he has some other district-wide duties (i.e., preschool screening, analyzing district assessment data, etc.).
In regards to a brief employment or professional history, Dr. Forman has been certified as a school psychologist since 1994. He completed his school psych training at Illinois State, and subsequent year long internship in Mount Prospect School District #57. He worked for four years as a school psychologist in the McHenry Elementary Schools (District #15) employed by the Special Education District of McHenry County (SEDOM). Dr. Forman also worked for two years in the Round Lake Area Schools (District #116). All totaled up, it appears as though Dr. Forman has about 20 years of experience working as a school psychologist - but still remains quite youthful in appearance.
Other interesting jobs that he has held over the years are: (1) worked in a residential facility #group home# with children who had developmental delays (McClean County Association of Retarded Citizens - MARC Center); (2) provided care & supervision at a group home for adolescent boys who were temporarily displaced from their homes due to behavioral or custodial/family issues (Shelter Inc.); (3) sold shoes at a "full service" shoe store to pay for college (Murrays Shoes); (4) apartment maintenance and summer landscaping for an apartment management company (Apartment Mart); lifeguard and assistant pool manager (Itasca Park District); and (5) gas station attendant - during those bygone days when people still used to pump your gas, wash your windows, and check your oil for you (Amoco). These jobs are considered to have provided some of the best 'character building' experiences.
Education
Since no one wants to read a resume, let's be brief. Dr. Forman completed his doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction at Loyola University Chicago. He earned a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Northeastern Illinois University, and completed his School Psychology Master of Sciences and Bachelors degrees from Illinois State University. He currently maintains the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential which indicates a commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to documented ethical standards.
Personal
In his time away from working as a school psychologist - Dr. Forman enjoys spending time with his family (wife, two kids, and his dog). He and his children love amusement parks and can often be found riding roller coasters at Six Flags Great America throughout the summer/fall. In addition, he has interests in running, boating/water sports, and reading. He hates to admit it, but he has to fight a screen addiction. More specifically he really loves watching movies & TV, Lego video games, and playing games on his smart phone & tablet too much.
